-As if the 2024 election wasn't foretold the day Ex-President Trump (R-apist) XCI chose to run again to stave off the legal proceedings against him on a platform of self-absolution, vengeance for all who cross him (which is everyone not named Vladimir Putin) and whatever flashes through his ever-misfiring and cross-firing brain waves (apparently immigration has ended Little League in this country per one of Trump's most recent appearances), the Biden-Trump matchup is set, assuming health and other oddities that could come this year - and given the last few years, anything and everything is possible. But where does the race stand?
-Most polling (I know, I know - but analysts need SOMEthing to yammer about) indicates a close race with Trump likely slightly ahead (and in one of those if-the-election-were-held-today thingies, CNN claimed Trump would win in a squeaker) - but there are clear and for the most part unique weaknesses each candidate has to address.
-For Biden, first and foremost and always is to counter his biggest weakness, which I believe has something to do with BIDEN B OLD and being constantly reminded that BIDEN B OLD by the political media. There are also issues with younger Muslim voters and other voters of color who continue to demand Biden end support for Israel and Benjamin Netanyahu before supporting him again. And there is the usual bit of misinformation, such as the belief Biden has broken his promise to bring student loan relief - the reality is Biden has used what executive power he has to forgive over $134 billion (per The Hill) while having REPUBLICANS BLOCK STUDENT DEBT RELIEF through court proceedings and their allies in the radical Supreme Court.
-As for Trump's weaknesses, start with his consistent underperformance in the primaries and caucuses that have raised red flags about how much control he actually has within the GOP MAGA Party (in contrast, Biden's performances in yesterday's Super Tuesday states outperformed Obama's 2012 numbers). Add to that exit polling that shows a significant number of Nikki Haley voters are extremely suspicious of if not openly hostile towards voting for Trump a third time, and the emerging funding crisis in the Trump campaign (witness his courting of Elon Musk over the weekend) and state Republican Parties nationally (AZ, MI, and WI are just three state parties with severe bankruptcy issues) and Trump claiming he "has all the votes (he) needs" (which he did on an RSBN interview), and that leaves Trump with trying to paint Biden as an extremist who hates democracy persecuting Trump while flying hundreds of thousands of illegal immigrants "who speak languages nobody speaks" into the US (which Trump woozily slurred in his cash-bar-only 'victory party' at Mar-a-Lago last night).
-There is also the whole MAGA movement, which Republicans will desperately want to divert attention away from to try to rewrite the Trump Presidency as the last and best time America ever had (if you forget the whole nobody-could-buy-toilet-paper thing thanks to Covid) from the kind of candidate that Democrats might want to personify and personalize as the face of the 2024 GOP MAGA Party.
-And that brings us to the winner of last night's GOP Primary for Governor of North Carolina, the current Lieutenant Governor, Mark Robinson.
-Mr. Robinson won last night with a rather ... interesting set of beliefs and writings and public statements. A political neophyte who won the LT Gov. position on the power of a speech defending guns and gun use, the African-American official has ... TRIGGER WARNING for hatred and ignorance and jaw-dropping stupidity ...
-Called transsexuals and homosexuals "filth," "maggots," "flies," and "what the cows leave behind," also promised to arrest any transsexual women who tries to use a woman's restroom ...
-Believes that the Marvel blockbuster BLACK PANTHER was "created by an agnostic Jew ... put to film by (a) satanic Marxist" for the purpose of "pull(ing) the shekels out of your Schvartze pockets" ...
-Believes the Interenet meme that Beyonce is "Satanic" ...
-Believes women who are part of the Me Too movement and defend themselves against men who sexually attack them for wearing "whore dresses to protest sexual harassment" while also calling Hillary Clinton "a heifer" and Michelle Obama "a man" ...
-Mocked victims of school shootings as "media prosti-tots" while promising to shoot and kill anyone he thinks as being anti-gun ...
-Called the Holocaust and the 6 million dead as a result "hogwash" - and subsequently defending/not fully dismissing the claims ("I am so sick of seeing and hearing people STILL talk about Nazis and Hitler and how evil and manipulative they were!" while trying to claim his opponent were "Marxists," showing he doesn't know what Marxists do, either) (FUN FACT: Robinson's Democratic opponent, Attorney General Josh Stein, is Jewish) ...
-And promising that, if he wins, he will work with the NC MAGA GOP legislature to enact a full abortion ban ... despite (and you can guess what that ellipse means) reportedly funding at least one abortion himself.
-Robinson won the nomination on the strength of those sentiments, and they likely led to a "complete and total endorsement!" from Trump, who called Robinson "Martin Luther King Jr. on steroids!"
-Reminder: North Carolina voted for Obama in 2008, has voted for Democrats state-wide, did not go for Trump by as wide a margins as other deep South states, and was considered to have been an outside shot as being in play. With Robinson at the top of the ticket, NC is likely to be an extremely hotly-contested state.
-As for Biden, his semi-official re-election campaign may jump off with tomorrow's State of the Union address. Watch for any personal digs against Trump, as there are reports he is hoping to personally goad Trump at every opportunity in the (pretty good) chance Trump will respond and respond in as undisciplined a way as we now all expect Trump to respond (as occurred last week after Trump duplicated an appearance on the Mexican border Biden made and also bit on a joke about Melania made by Biden when Biden appeared on Seth Myers' show). Some MAGAts have 'threatened' to boycott the speech and even want Speaker Mike Johnson (R-Jay-EE-zuz!, LA) to cancel the speech - apparently not realizing Biden can deliver the SOTU anywhere he wants or even just send the speech over to Congress, which was the early tradition from the Republic).
-And, to close, here's Another Good Thing Biden Did just yesterday: the Administration announced a new rule yesterday that caps credit card late fees at $8. Current late fees can go as high as $32. Fox Bid-ness reports banks are VERY AN-GRY! at the new fees, which is how you know it's a good new rule! THANKS, BIDEN!
